What They Don’t Tell You as a High School Senior

I am a high school senior in South Carolina, and this is 5 things I wish I knew as a high school senior.

High school is a weird experience. You either love it, hate it, or it’s eh. I love high school. I also work really hard on all of my school work. This has hindered my social life, but also set me up for many opportunities in the future. I am still trying to figure out if all of my hard work was worth it, but right now it seems like it was.

One reason I enjoy high school is because of all my friends. I attend a small charter high school, consisting of 500 students. I know almost everyone, and most of the people in my grade have been at the school since freshman year. My social life was at its peak sophomore year. My parents were lenient because they trusted me. I got all A’s but still enjoyed the experiences of having an 11:30 pm curfew. This year, my senior year, is very different than my sophomore year. Because we are in the middle of a pandemic, I have not had an amazing social life. I can say that I haven’t experienced many of the things I look forward to growing up: Spirit week, Senior Walk, First Day of School, and lunch. It has made me appreciate what my previous years of high school, and made me excited for the next chapter of my life. I am planning to attend a four year university.
